History
ToSustain's drawings evolution over the years
ToSustain displays organic letter-shapes which intend to offer a new language in today’s dichotomized world of serif versus sans-serif fonts. Through a long process of trial and error, the font switched multiple times from « with » to « sans » serif endings, thus ending in the very unique category of « sans » typefaces. The font draws inspiration from the beautiful work of Karl Gerstner with his Gerstner Original font ( 1980 ) and Otl Aicher with his Rotis superfamily for Agfa ( 1988 ), among others. The initial aim was to propose new ways of connecting curves to stems, mainly by making the drawing asymmetrical between the inside and the outside of the stroke, as it appears in the lowercase « n ». Furthermore, letters requiring a rotation of primary shape such as the « b » and « d » exhibit a different drawing, thus remembering the structure of a serif-typeface. Composed of a regular, medium and italic, the ToSustain renders highly legible texts with unique character in both small and large sizes. Designed between 2013–2024, first released in 2016.
